He’s on his way up!

* * *

Robert had waited until nightfall before leaving the luxury hotel. He had entered the Stetson Farm address into the Ford’s navigation system, but before he could visit the ranch he needed to return to the motel to pick up clean clothes and his toiletries. Driving the rental car over the bridge, he smirked as he thought about the days ahead.

He loved his work, and with all he’d learned over the years, abducting Bethany and Angela wouldn’t be difficult.

When he reached the small community, he drove slowly through the town. Most of the stores were closed, but noticing a small Italian restaurant and a tavern still open, he made a mental note to check them out another time.

Finally reaching the motel, he pulled into the parking area, climbed from his car and walked up to the front door—but came to an abrupt stop. Through the glass doors he spotted the back of a tall, muscled, dark-haired man who resembled the security guy he’d met at Tom Mitchell’s mansion.

When in doubt, Robert always ran!

Quickly turning, he hurried back to his car to wait for him to leave, but the parking space didn’t offer a decent view of the front door.

“Fuck,” he grunted under his breath as he started the engine.

Driving through the lot, he finally found a spot in a line of other vehicles that gave him a decent view of the motel entrance. Rolling to a stop, he glanced at his watch. It had just passed 10 p.m. As he sat and waited, the minutes grew longer…and longer. Checking the time, he discovered it was 10:15. It had felt like an hour. Out of patience, he stepped from the car, moved cautiously up to the doors and peered into the lobby.

There was no sign of the security man or the desk clerk.

“Fuck, I should’ve realized,” he grunted under his breath. “A good-looking guy like that is here to hook up. He probably has more pussy than he can handle,” he grunted, feeling a pang of jealousy as he stepped inside. But striding to the elevator, he realized he’d left the key to his room in the glove compartment. Frustrated and annoyed, he marched up to the desk and rang the bell

“Mr. MacDonald,” the desk clerk exclaimed with a smile. “Good evening. May I help you?”

“I need a key.”

“You don’t have yours?”

“I left mine in the car.”

“One moment please. I’m on a call with the owner.”

“He can wait. I’m a paying guest.”

“Of course, sorry,” the desk clerk replied, stepping forward and opening a drawer. “Here you are, Sir.”

Angrily turning and marching to the elevator, Robert cursed under his breath. He needed a drink, then he’d contrive his plan to nab Bethany.
